Here’s fusion number 8, the last one for this week! Yeah, I missed 2 this week due to my schedule being really hectic, and its going to be even worse next week since I’ll be moving. Today we signed the house away. I’ll be in Florida a little more than a week later…Both happy and sad about the ordeal. BUT ANYWAY! Onto the fusion!

Only one organization could create such abominations and bring them about the world…Yes, Team Rocket is by and large responsible for the genetic modifications and birth of Pokemon fusions! During the Mewtwo project, a rogue sect of the development team went about to utilize Team Rocket’s vast resources and funds to entertain their dark visions. As if Mewtwo wasn’t enough, these scientists continued to splice genetic codes from their already large collection of specimen to create a new set of abominations…And this is one of them.

SABOLT (Sabre + Bolt)

BACK STORY:

When Giovanni’s Persian began displaying what he thought were symptoms of a life threatening illness, he ordered all Rocket scientists to halt their work and to find a cure for his beloved friend. After running tests and attempting diagnoses, it was simply found that Persian was reaching the end of his life by natural causes. Giovanni, distraught to the news yet relieved it was nothing worse (like cancer), looked to his Persian and began to pet him fondly. Tears streamed down his face as a Rocket scientists barged into the room.

“There might be a way to extend his life span,” he began. He saw Giovanni’s glossy eyes and then looked away.

Giovanni looked up at his employee while continuing to pet his Persian.

“Tell anyone of this and I will end you,”

The Rocket scientists looked down at his feet and then at Persian, nodding his head in fear.

Giovanni listened to the plan that could save his friend. The solution was simple: A pokemon fusion. Giovanni spent a whole week thinking about the ordeal, whether or not he should go with it. What he was afraid of the most was whether or not the mutation would be the same old Persian he grew up with or a brand new pokemon with a new personality and no recollection of its past. For a brief moment, he began to question the entire pokemon fusion project his organization had been undertaking. He took an entire week to consider the pros and cons of taking this route.

On the night before he made his decision, he found that his heart was too heavy and could not bare the pain of losing his Persian. It was decided - to save his Persian, Giovanni would allow him to be fused with a creature of his choosing.

Giovanni walked through the Rocket “zoo” and after much deliberation, settled on Electabuzz. Electabuzz, who had some feline qualities, was an electric type. This ensured that its vigor and vitality could easily jumpstart the aging Persian. On top of that, it was already a very formidable pokemon. It was strong and agile, and full of life, proving to be a great battler on many Rocket missions it participated in.

On the day of the fusion, Rocket scientists waited on their boss to spend his last moments with Persian. Giovanni broke down, disregarding his stone cold persona in front of his employees. He fell to his knees, hugging his friend. Persian began to cry in response, purring and snuggling closer to his master. He was scared of what might happen, but would go through with the plan to make his master happy.

Giovanni stood back up, and began to walk away towards the head scientists in charge of the fusion process. Persian simply followed his master, then sat next to him when Giovanni stopped. He looked up at him, his eyes wavering. Giovanni pointed to where Persian was to rest for the procedure. Persian did not budge.

Giovanni let out a sigh, and then a smile. He walked towards the cold machinery, Persian following.

“Up,” ordered Giovanni. Persian climbed upon the platform when a tube of glass slid up from around the platform. Persian began to hiss, but Giovanni shushed his pet. He then raised his hand, placing it upon the barrier. Persian attempted to lick his hand, before realizing their was a wall, and then put up his paw in reciprocation.

“I’m not going anywhere,” called Giovanni.

A second later, sleeping gas began to fill the chamber, putting the big cat to rest.

From there, the Rocket scientists began their work.

After some time, Giovanni woke up. He had fell asleep in one of reclining leather chairs at a desk in the fusion room. His eyes blurry, he snapped out of his post sleep haze and found bodies ripped to shreds all around him. The two platforms on the sides of the room where Electabuzz and Persian sat were empty. In the middle, the tube that was to house the fusion was cracked and broken. Below that platform was a large beast. It was the fusion, his eyes glowing blue. Sparks flew about as it stalked closer to Giovanni.

“I told you I wasn’t going anywhere,” chuckled Giovanni.

The creature continued to walk slowly towards the Rocket boss. It was large, and looked nothing like his old Persian. The beast looked tense, uneasy, and ready to strike.

“Stop playing around, and come here,”

The beast pounced, a crackle of lightning sound off at the top of the action, as it pinned Giovanni.

Not breaking a sweat, Giovanni began to laugh.

“Looks like you haven’t lost a step, old friend,”

Sabolt began to lick his master’s face, the two playing before getting up and calling a janitor to clean up the dead bodies.

ROCKET DEX:

Persian, who carries a jewel on its head, is thought to house some sort of mysterious power. The jewel is similar in nature to Espeon’s, which is the source of its psychic power. When an Electabuzz was fused with Persian, its electric element was channeled through this jewel that amplified its special ability and unlocked genes of its distant tiger family. The jewel on its head is no longer red, but blue, and glows with Sabolt’s eyes when it uses electric attacks.

Sabolt’s tiger stripe pattern is actually Electabuzz’s lightning pattern, which is shared with the likes of Zebstrika. Persian’s fangs grew quite some length, and are used to sink into its preys neck for a quick kill.

Sabolt is noticeably larger than its former self, weighing more due to the muscle it has gained. Despite this, it is as quiet as ever, and has earned the nickname “assassin”. Because it is now an electric type, Sabolt’s fur is harder to manage than in its former life, when it was known for its excellent grooming habits. It does not seem to matter, as it is more savage and not concerned over appearance.

This pokemon has fun with its prey, usually paralyzing it before toying with it before the kill. Otherwise, it might do a 180 and go about its business in a strict manner, quickly and efficiently. Like Persian, it is quite fickle with its mood.

Personal Commentary

Hope you enjoyed the backstory! I never really cared for Persian, but when I saw that Electabuzz was added to the fusion site, I thought that I should create a tiger pokemon. Persian was the perfect host body for this fusion. We don’t actually have a tiger pokemon in canon, so I had to fill that gap. Tigers are among my favorite animals, next to dinosaurs and sharks. lmao, I know, random. I’m also fond of polar bear cubs. Ahem.

So anyway, Electabuzz’s tail and pattern were what gave me the idea of creating a tiger. Also, the shape of its head could be translated into a cat’s. As I was drawing it out, it lost too many of Persians features outside of its general body. Originally, he was painted all yellow, but it was not a good look. I then decided to make the base Persian’s cream color, and let it gradually get into an orange for tiger and then yellow for Electabuzz. I had the stripes painted black at first, but opted to go for a navy blue to make it pop more. Upon my research, I found that Electabuzz has blue sparks running about its fur so I incorporated more blues starting with those stripes. Shocking blue eyes would match the blue jewel on its head (once red), and its electric attacks would all be blue and not yellow, which would look better next to the orange and yellow fur. Eventually I added tufts of fur sticking out from its arms and tail, because it looked too kempt for my vision. This element was taken from Electabuzz being a bit furry looking.

So with all of these changes building, I built up a backstory and reasoning as to why it became a tiger and what not. As I’ve said before, coming up with the backstory is as much fun as drawing and painting the creature out. P.S. Did you know the Sabre tooth tiger, which this was half based off of (just the fangs really) is not actually a tiger? In Sabolt’s case, it IS quite literally a sabre tooth tiger :P
